Usually it works the other way around, folks who like my writing recommend that others check it out. At the very beginning, I would share my work with carefully selected friends and acquaintances with whom I though a piece would really resonated. You can also research people who already have audiences that might be excited about what you’re working on for a very specific set of reasons. But largely, my experience has been that building an audience is demand driven. As a writer, my job is to be genuine, open, and craft stories worth sharing. If you consistently put stuff out there that you’re proud of, people who identify with it start to congregate.
